Bonds and insurance

The bond face amount is not the premium paid to a surety.

Understand the $25,000 contractor bond, qualifying-individual bond, $100,000 LLC employee/worker bond, workers' compensation, exemptions, and active-license maintenance.

Contractor bond

An active license requires a $25,000 contractor bond or an approved alternative filed under the exact CSLB business name and license information.

Bond of Qualifying Individual

An RME or some RMO arrangements may require a separate $25,000 qualifying-individual bond. A qualifying RMO who owns at least 10% of the voting stock or equity may be eligible for exemption.

LLC employee/worker bond

An active LLC contractor license generally carries a separate $100,000 employee/worker bond in addition to the contractor bond.

Workers' compensation

Employee labor requires coverage. Some no-employee licensees can file an exemption, but C-8, C-20, C-22, C-39, and C-61/D-49 licensees have special requirements, and an RME-qualified license cannot use the ordinary exemption.
